Westglade Primary School

Situated on the northern fringes of Nottingham, Westglade Primary School is an average-sized school with a high proportion of pupils entering with speech and language difficulties, FSM numbers almost double national, and a high proportion of pupils with identified SEND. Despite this, KS2 progress and attainment outcomes show that Westglade pupils reach and exceed national. Writing results have shown a particular improvement, the school moving from 78 percentage ranking in 2014 to 2nd percentage ranking in 2015.

I became Head at Westglade in September 2014, and quickly established that I was joining a talented team of professionals, committed to the children they were responsible for. Prior to my arrival, staff had worked hard to create consistency in teaching and learning, as well as an exciting curriculum. Yet, although progress data was close to national, despite staff commitment, the school was struggling to make floor targets.
