In September 2009 I gained my first permanent Head ship as Executive Head teacher to Kymbrook and Thurleigh Lower Schools, two very different small rural schools in North Bedfordshire. The schools had been languishing without a permanent Head teacher for almost three years and the lack of firm forward thinking leadership was very evident. My first year consisted of assessing the good practice in evidence and strengthening the schools partnership by obtaining hard federation status. Hard Federation was key to our development, we had a good quality of staff, but they were operating in isolation we needed to build a strong sense of team in order to move the schools forward and recreate a curriculum focussed on the pupils needs.
