St Paul’s CE Primary School

St. Paul’s is an average sized primary school, currently with 270 pupils on role including a Nursery. We serve a community in an area of high deprivation. The majority of pupils are from white British backgrounds. The proportion of children with SEND is above the national average and the proportion of disadvantaged pupils, supported by pupil premium funding, is well above the national average. Current FSM/Ever6 figures are at 52%.

In 2006 the school had a set of SATs results that were extremely poor, this followed many years of under performance. It became clear that we needed to make significant changes to address underachievement. Identifying the underlying causes was the first priority, and it became clear that we needed to raise the aspirations and expectations that teachers had of the pupils. We also needed to create a culture of success for the pupils and improve their own levels of interest in school and aspirations for their own future.
