St Mary’s Island Church of England (Aided) Primary is a community school in Medway, Kent. It is larger than the average sized primary school with 414 children split across 14 classes. The large majority of pupils are from white British backgrounds. Others come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including African, Black Caribbean, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani and other ethnic and White heritages. Most pupils speak English as their main language but the proportion that is at the early stages of learning English as an additional language has increased. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs identified at school action, action plus or with a statement are slightly below average. The proportion of pupils eligible for the pupil premium is below the national average. The school is part of the Diocese of Rochester and there is a church on the premises.
