Springwell Village Primary School

Our school is on the border between Sunderland and Gateshead. The building itself is 108 years old and when I took up post in 2008, I found a school with huge potential, but one that had been left behind and needed an injection of new life and creative energy.

Where did we start?

Three weeks into post, the school was inspected and found to be satisfactory and whilst there were aspects of strength, there were a number of areas in urgent need of development. This gave us a powerful mandate for all we wanted to achieve. The whole school community came together in united strength and our motto became “Learning together for a brighter future!” Extensive modernisation was needed and the staff and children grabbed it with both hands.
