Mersey Park Primary is a larger than average primary school serving about 450 pupils aged 3-11. The percentage of pupils entitled to Free School Meals is around 38%. I was appointed Head teacher in January 2011 to this caring and welcoming school with a very willing staff who were ready for change in order to bring about improvements in standards. Achievement and Progress results in both Key Stage 1 and 2 over the previous few years had been at a low level.

It became apparent within the first few weeks that the dedicated and hard- working team of staff were demoralised by falling standards and needed a change of focus. I was very lucky that they were on board from the start with changes that were to be made.
