About Us | Mark Cross school is a smaller than average primary school in rural East Sussex. We could almost describe it as ‘a hidden gem’ as it is set back from the road, tucked behind the church which was originally built as the school in 1851. Like any ‘hidden gem’ you realise as soon as you enter that this is a very special school. There is a sense of community, if not family, that is displayed in the welcome from staff and children, the feeling of nurture accompanying an eagerness to learn. It has four classes: Reception, Year 1 / 2, Year 3 / 4 and Year 5 /6. The large majority of pupils are from White British backgrounds. Predominantly the pupils live outside our catchment area. The proportion of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities is below average as is the number of pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant. The school is part of the Saxonbury Federation working alongside Frant CE primary school which is about 4 miles away. Currently the Saxonbury Federation is working with the Aspire Federation, which consists of Mayfield CE and Five Ashes CE primary schools to further enhance the education and opportunities the pupils receive. |
