Margaret Wix Primary School is smaller than an average-sized school. It is situated on the northern outskirts of St Albans and most pupils live near to the school though an increasing number live in other parts of the city. Due to the pressure on school places in the St Albans district pupil mobility is high, especially in EYFS and Key Stage 1. About half the pupils are White British and the rest come from a wide range of minority ethnic groups, with approximately 38% of pupils speaking languages other than English. The proportion of children eligible for free school meals is above average. The proportion identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities is above average. Most of these pupils have specific learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulties or autistic spectrum disorders.
