Hatherley Infant School is an inner city community school, with around 180 children on roll. Children all live locally and come from very diverse backgrounds, with an ever increasing percentage of children coming from ethnic minority backgrounds. A significant number of children on entry are at early stages of learning English. The percentage of children who speak English as an additional language is well above the national average. 17 different languages are spoken at home. The proportion of children who are entitled to FSM is slightly higher than average.

The percentage of children requiring SEN support on the Code of Practice is significantly above the national average. The school has an excellent reputation within the local community and is frequently oversubscribed. Visitors always compliment the school on its happy, positive and inclusive ethos.
