Great Bentley Primary School is a one form entry school with 210 pupils on role. The majority of pupils are white British. After the school came out of special measures in 2004 it has fluctuated between ‘satisfactory’ and ‘good’ Ofsted judgements. Staffing was fairly static with progress across Key Stage 2 being inadequate.

Over the last three years the school has changed Ofsted category twice. In March 2014 the school dropped from ‘Good’ to ‘RI’. Ofsted noted that; standards in writing were too low; not enough more able pupils were able to reach levels of attainment they were capable of and progress was uneven between year groups. Additionally, middle leaders were not having enough impact and improving teaching lacked rigor.
