Dorchester Primary School

Dorchester is much larger than the average-sized primary school. The school began expanding from two to three form entry in September 2011. This year we have three classes in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 and two in 4, 5 and 6. Our 52 place Nursery class has a morning and an afternoon session.

The expansion has seen a dramatic rise in the number of children attending across the school from 457 to 559. Through this transition the staff have made a conscientious effort to maintain a strong community feel throughout the school by providing opportunities to work cross phase. This has been achieved by share learning opportunities within the school with themed weeks and regular shared assemblies. A good example of this happens annually during book week where teachers visit other classes to read them their favourite stories, older children write for younger audiences and then share these with them.
