‘Unlocking Potential’

Barleyhurst Park Primary School was formed in 2008 following the merger of the infant and junior schools. All jobs were safeguarded for two years during which the governors undertook workforce restructuring work. 2009-2010 was a very turbulent year for the school. The Headteacher at that time suffered a series of long term absences, meaning that the two deputies and the governing body managed the day-to-day running of the school. Ofsted visited the school in May 2010 and it was judged to be satisfactory. Despite this judgement, the Local Authority was extremely concerned and placed the school into an LA Category 4 – School Causing Concern. Consequently, when the current Headteacher took up the post in September 2010 staff morale was extremely low and a significant amount of work was needed to establish a positive atmosphere and create stability within the school.
